Guest Post: Perfume Collection

Hello everyone, I’m Rebecca

I write a dreamy little blog filled with crafts, beauty and fashion called Rebecca Recommends

About me

I love:
fashion,
beauty,
romantic novels,
Mr Darcy,
(by god...how I want to lick that man....)
baking pies,
50's fashion,
peppermint tea,
wellies,
cardigans,
& romps in the countryside.

Sometimes I think I really should have been born in another generation, but then I remember online shopping…

I spend most of my time baking, crafting and wandering around Hampshire with my boyfriend Oliver. He’s kind of lovely.

You can read more about our adventures on my blog- feel free to stop by! : )

In the mean time, Amanda Mae has asked me to review my perfume collection for you:

Here are all my perfumes. I didn't intentionally buy them to match; they were all gifts from lovely people :) I know most girls like to have a signature scent, but I think it's great to have a few for different occasions!

1. Dolce & Gabbana- The One, for her.

My Mam gave this to me because she didn't really wear it. I absolutely love it! it smells really clean and fresh and I wear it on a daily basis.

2. Chanel No. 5

There's a reason this perfume is an absolute classic. It's gorgeous! you only need a tiny spritz and it lasts all day. I wear it when I'm in the mood for some vintage glamour. It's been adored by women for the best part of a century, and it just smells like a 1920's dance hall- amazing!

3. Prada Escentual

This perfume reminds me of my best friend. We first discovered it on a Christmas shopping a few years back, and we loved it! I'll probably buy it forever because it reminds me of the fun we had that day. It smells a little bit like wood smoke, and I'm going to spray it on my wooly scarves this winter :)

4. Covet by Sarah Jessica Parker
This is a really feminine floral fragrance, and I use it if I'm going on a date. It's also a delicate enough smell to use on linen- and I recently used it to make my drawers smell nice.

As a side note, I recently picked up this little bowl from Urban Outfitters :) it's perfect for storing my earrings and I'm thinking of starting a collection of vintage saucers from charity shops.
I arranged all my perfumes on my dressing table as a form of decoration-

What do you think?

Rebecca

NOTD: Wet 'N Wild Megalast "Wet Cement"

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and found a lot of great deals on Black Friday! I definitely had a great Holiday and did a little shopping.

So I have a new favorite nail polish! It is "Wet Cement" from Wet N Wild Megalast. I am just so in love with the Manicurve Pro Brush it has. It is wide and just glides on my nails for the perfect application. I am definitely not a pro at applying nail polish and usually end up with more of it on the sides of my fingers rather than my actual nail. You really only need two coats for it be opaque.

It is the perfect shade of a purplish taupe. In certain lights it looks like it has a purple tone to it, but then in other lights it looks very taupe.

Price:  $1.99

But you can usually find Wet N Wild for buy one, get one 50 % off at certain stores. Such as:

What are you wearing on your nails today?

Guest Post: Shopping Sales

Hello beautiful Southern Glamourista readers! I am so thrilled at the opportunity to guest blog for such a sweet person like Amanda Mae! Allow me to tell you a little about myself…I hate shopping! Specifically, I hate holiday shopping for my husband. So much so that I’ve recently shared my holiday shopping frustrations on my blog as my way of seeking a support group I guess (lol). Even though I picked out my husband's gift weeks ago, I still feel the anxiety and financial ache that comes with all things shopping (I know, I need help, lol). I'm sure I'm not alone on this, but even if you don't share in my distress, most of us can agree-we love a good bargain.
To ease some of the holiday burden, and help out in anyway I can, I'm going to post on Pricilla J. Design Facebook
fan page, friend page and twitter account all of the sales and deals I find daily. I'll also create a post with the round up of those deals each Friday until December 21st.
Here we go!

1. Baghaus.com 25% off of purchases of $60 or more when you use code 25NOV at checkout. They offer an array of accessories for women, men, and even baby. I recently bought this amazing bag. It's super roomy and can also be worn with its cross body strap!

2. Loft’s rewards program is now offering a $25 savings card for every $50 you spend. See details below.

3.
e.l.f. is offering 50% off all holiday gift sets with code 50GIFTS on orders of $25 until November 21st. I've talked about how much I love the e.l.f. studio brush set, but at 50% off this is a can't miss opportunity to try them for yourself.

4.
Sephora.com has free three day shipping on orders of $50 or more. Makeup gift sets, this time of year, are my absolute favorite purchases because you get an array of colors or products in one cute package.

5. You'll get 25% off at
loehmanns.com with promo code SV25NV. They have a great collection of brands at discounted prices.

6. Beauty.com and Drugstore.com offer free shipping on order of $25 or more. Get those makeup gifts sets now!

7. You can get 20-25% off select items at
westelm.com, including rugs, lighting, throws and more.

Am I the only one that can spend hours in their showroom?

8.  Gilt.com is offering 20% off with promo code 20GILT through December 31st.

Live Beautifully Tip (something I do on my site):
Wear a cross body bag while shopping. There's no need to lug around a big shoulder bag that will just get in the way. Your i.d., credit cards, keys, phone, and coupon are all you're going to need to make it through the mall. You can always leave the larger purse in the trunk of your car.

Review: Macademia Healing Oil Treatment

I have raved and raved about the Moroccanoil Treatment so many times on my blog and other beauty blogs. I am just in love with that stuff! I was at Ulta (my favorite place ever, well beside Sephora hehe) and decided to pick up some of the Macadamia Healing Oil Treatment. I have tried other products from the Macademia Oil line, but I have never tried the Healing Oil Treatment. I went with the small sample size to make sure I would like it first before spending a ton of money on it.

What they say:

Macadamia Healing Oil Treatment is a therapeutic oil perfect for all hair types and is especially beneficial to dry, damaged hair. The Healing Oil Treatment is instantly absorbed, weightlessly infusing the hair with moisture and nutrients for silky smooth, healthy looking hair while providing natural UV protection from photo and sun damage. Dry, brittle hair is miraculously rejuvenated with increased shine and control.

  • Intense nourishment for tangle & frizz free hair
  • Hair that is ultra-smooth, manageable & shiny
  • Natural UV protection extends the life of color treatments
  • Reduced drying time by an amazing 40-50%
  •

    What I say:
It definitely left my hair looking very shiny and feeling very soft and smooth. It has a very lovely scent to it, kind of musky, but I like it! It definitely did help with detangling my hair. My hair tangles so easy, so it was nice not having to worry about those annoying tangles! I love that you can apply it to dry hair to complete your look and really make your hair shiny. I read other reviews that it helped with reducing drying time for their hair, but I didn't notice a huge difference in my drying time.  Overall, I am very happy with this product. It did exactly what it said it was going to do.

    How to apply:
You can apply it to wet hair or dry hair. You will want to make sure you distribute evenly throughout the hair, but don't put too much on. It can make your hair greasy if you put a lot on the roots. It did for me at least. I just put it in my hair from the bottom of my ears down to the ends. I would rub it between my hands to warm it up some and then rub it gently in my hair. If I had any left on my hands, I would just graze it across the top part of my hair.

Where to find the Macademia Healing Oil Treatment:

    1.0 oz- $13.00
.35 oz- $6.50  (this is the size I got. See picture above)
    4.2 oz- $39.95

    4.2 oz - $38.99

    4.2 oz - $21.69

I am sure you could find it other places, but I just wanted to name a few places. It is a bit pricey, but definitely worth it.

As much as I loved this product...
The Morrocanoil Treatment still has my heart!

Have you tried any of the Macademia Oil Products?
If so, what did you think?

    Guest Post: DIY Facial Toner

Hello everyone! I am SO excited to be a guest blogger today!!! I have been following Southern Glamourista faithfully for a little over a month now and was super excited when she offered this opportunity to me! Let me tell you three things about myself:

    1. I have a brain injury...but you would never guess it from looking at me or talking to me! I got this in a car wreck in 2010. Because of the brain inury and back injuries I am unable to work so I started blogging as a way to keep myself from going crazy and to feel like I have a life...and I love it!

    2. I love, love, love crafts! I am a big time crafter!!! My latest thing is refashioning clothes, but I also enjoy creating my own clothes from blots of fabric which I buy on clearance or at yard sales, I LOVE to crochet (but only know a few basic stitches!), and Pinterest gives me plenty of inspiration to keep me well supplied with other types of crafting!

    3. I don't wear make up! Ever! Why? Well, that's a long story...but you can start with this post. It was a long journey, and took a lot of courage to start the transformation of going from a 'mask' to my natural face, but I have to say I am much more confidant in myself than I used to be and that is very important to me!

Now for today's post...this is a DIY Beauty Recipe...and one that I hope many people will find helpful. I have to admit that when I first saw this idea on Laurel of Leaves I was like, "yeah right...that won't work" ...but, as you will see, it DOES work!

Because of the Car Wreck (mentioned in #1 about me) I am constantly having medicine changes, and my body does not always like the medicines I am on. The most recent medicine has caused ridiculous breakouts all over my face (mostly my forehead, but some on my chin and by my nose too) and it drives me crazy because I was one of those lucky girls who never had a problem with pimples or zits or breakouts, ever! I'm not used to this! Which leads me to a second problem: I started a terrible habit of messing with the little bumps so that makes them look even worse!!! (I am doing a lot better about not touching my face though...so with the recipe below and not touching my face my breakouts are not near as awful as they were in the beginning!)

I want to show you some pics in which my face is all broke out...and is terribly embarrassing and gross. (There is NO editing on my face...so everything there is what it actually looked like in real life). These photos are from November 2012:

This is probably one of the worst breakouts I experienced since starting the new medicine. There is a bunch right in the middle of my eyebrows, and a ton on the right side of my face (when you're looking at the photo).

Here you can see that the breakout in the picture just before is getting better.

New breakout...and I forgot to mention that breakouts are painful...I'm sure you all already knew that...I didn't before now. Those little suckers hurt!

A fairly normal day when I keep up with washing my face with the toner (recipe just below!).

An awesome day! I think I had a few little bumps, but they were so small! I almost felt like I was back to my normal face!!!
Why yes that is a piece of cookies and cream chocolate I am holding! :)

I started using this water and vinegar mix on my face at the beginning of November. All the photos above were taken during the experimental period of this recipe (because I didn't think it would help so I had to test it before I shared it on my blog...or in this case on Southern Glamourista!). Honestly I want to try using white vinegar instead of apple cider vinegar, but I haven't had a chance to experiment with that yet!

Things I figured out:  1. My breakouts are not as bad as they were when I didn't use the water/vinegar on my face! A huge deal for me!! 2. If you pick at a sore on your face the vinegar will sting...but applying the vinegar/water mix actually seemed to help mine heal up faster so any time a pimple/sore popped I would put some of the mix on it to help it along. 3. Seriously apply this stuff carefully around your eyes if you apply it at all. I just stuck with under my eyes at first and then after I had got to everything else and the rag was not as wet I would gently dab my eyelid area. If you get the mix in your eyes it will burn! 4. I kept my mix stored in a regular food container under the bathroom sink and it seemed to do fine. I only made up this recipe once for the whole month and that was using it multiple times a day sometimes!

    Ingredients
1 cup of water (I used regular tap water)
1 cup of apple cider vinegar (I used Great Value brand from WalMart)

You can make more or less of this mix as you need just keep equal portions of water to apple cider vinegar so if you want half the mix I have above just do 1/2 cup of water and 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar.

    Directions
    1. Get a plastic container (I used one that we keep leftover food in and it worked great!) to store the mix in.
    2. Pour both the water and apple cider vinegar into the container. Put the lid on and make sure it is sealed and then give it a good few second shake.
    3. Keep it stored in your bathroom cabinet (that's just where I kept mine!).

    How To Use
    1. Make sure your face is clean and make-up free.
    2. Rinse your face with cool water.
    3. Take a wash cloth and wrap part of it around your first three fingers on one of your hands. Dip it into the mix and hold it there for a few seconds. The wash cloth will soak up the mix and you will feel it on your fingers. You don't want to soak your wash cloth, a little goes a long way and you can always get more with a different section of your wash cloth if you need to!
    4. Start at the worst areas that need the most attention. For me this was usually my forehead and then I would start at the areas that were really red. Gently dab (and you can even do a light scrubbing motion too...I did this sometimes because on sores that were open it just hurt too much not to do something!). If an area is stinging just pause a second and let the stinging go away. Reapply to areas that sting. Continue to the rest of your face by gently apply the water/vinegar mix until you have it all over.
    5. Let your face air dry for the best results. (Another reason you don't want a sopping wet wash cloth!)

    How Often?
Well this depends on how bad your breakouts are. Mine were awful (keep in mind this is awful in my world...your terms of awful may be completely different!) and I wanted this stuff to work its magic so I applied it when I woke up in the morning (rinsed my face with cold water and then applied) and then at night before I went to bed. Any time during the day that I felt/saw a new breakout coming on I would apply again. After about four days I started to notice that the sores would scab over and fall off. Yuck, but truth you should know ahead of time! Also, I didn't use any other soaps, moisturizers or facial products while I was experimenting with this (I rarely use them anyway). I did notice that some areas of my forehead became a little dry, but that didn't bother me. If you have a dry forehead you can always apply a light moisturizer once your face has air dried. Of course if you have any questions you can always leave a comment below (I'll keep up with comments on this post here!) or you can stop by my blog and leave a comment anywhere and I'll do my best to answer your questions!

    Closing
I have had so much fun sharing this easy DIY beauty tip with you all today! I know that I've had a blast writing up this post for today!! I am always experimenting with something in the beauty area so if you enjoyed this post please feel free to stop by and visit: Helen @ Blue Eyed Beauty! If you leave me a comment I would love to see your blog too!!

    Review: eShakti Dress

Happy Sunday everyone! I hope y'all had an amazing weekend and are ready to take on the week! I know I am! So I was recently contacted by the lovely people of eShakti to do a review on one of their products. I chose the Banded Waist Poplin Dress. Before I start talking about the dress, let me tell you more about the company, eShakti.

eShakti believes that all women have the right to wear affordable fashion that is made for them and makes them look their absolute best. They offer both style and fit for women sizes 0 to 36. They have design teams based out of New York, California, and India, so they can keep up with the latest fashion trends all over the world. You can customize the dress, shirt, jacket, or skirt to your body type by entering all of your measurements.

I don't know about you, but I can never find a dress that fits me perfectly everywhere. It is either too loose at the top part of the dress or too short. So I loved the fact that I could enter all of my measurements and the dress would be made just for me!
It just doesn't get any better than that!!!

I chose to customize the Banded Waist Poplin Dress to fit my body perfectly. I had to enter my measurements for my shoulder, waist, chest, hip, bust, upper arm, under bust, and length of arm. I also had to enter my height, and how I wanted the sleeve type, dress length, and neckline. I chose the below the knee length, but you can customize it to fit above the knee, mid-calf length, or even as a short dress. You can also change up the sleeve style: sleeveless (like I chose), capsleeve, inset sleeve, short length, or short-length with tie-ups. So many possibilities for one dress!!!  The dress arrived at my house within 4 business days by DHL. It was packaged very nicely. The dress is such a gorgeous color. They call it "Coral Orange." It is made out of cotton, has a ruched bodice, scoop neck, and is sleeveless.

I love that it has a hidden zipper on the side. My favorite part of the dress is the pockets!! How many times do you wish you had a place for your debit card, license, or even lip gloss when you are going somewhere, but have no where to put it?!! Well, problem solved with these adorable pockets!

This dress could definitely be a cute summer dress, but I think it would also work perfectly in the Fall. I paired it with a blue jean jacket, some boots and voila...the perfect fall dress!!

Overall, I am extremely impressed with the dress and the company. I will definitely be making a purchase from them in the near future!

If you would like to look at more of their fashion or to learn more about the company..

Now go customize your perfect dress!! :)
