Guest Post: Nursery Dilemma

Ok so Amanda agreed to let me do a "baby post" as a guest post on her blog. I tried to come up with something super awesome, but at a little over 6 months pregnant, I am baby brainwashed! It's literally all I think about. What should we name the baby? How should we decorate the nursery? Is it ok to buy skinny jeans from the baby girl section even though we're having a boy? Is my butt really getting this big?! You know, your regular every day thoughts...hee. Butts and skinny jeans aside, the nursery has been such a struggle for me. I have so many ideas, but maybe too many ideas. I don't want his room to look like a jumbled hodge podge of a room. It's hard to focus on what "style direction" I want to go. I don't do themes. The whole goo-goo gah-gah, baby overload thing doesn't get my blood flowing. I still want the room to have class and be a place for mom and dad to relax as well.

My main struggle has been the wall behind the crib. It's the biggest wall. Right now it's big and white and EMPTY. So today I thought I'd share some inspiration pics that I've come across. Maybe you guys can give me your opinion?
The Name Game...

I could make the crib wall a place to display his name? Making it extravagant, so that his name is to bold focal point of the room?

Crib Collage...

Originally, I thought for sure that I would do a frame collage behind his crib. I'm still LOVING that idea, but dad isn't so much...Plus do I leave the wall white? I'd honestly like to leave the walls all white. Just to keep them fresh and clean. I like the idea of the lower pics, how they toss in other art and doodads and not just the frames.

Statement Wall...

Orrr do I skip my white walls idea and do a statement wall? Some fun stripes? A few wall decals?

Decisions, decisions! What do you guys think?? Have you already decorated a nursery? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

You can check out what I've done in our nursery, so far here and here and you can keep up with our posts on our Facebook page! :) We're also doing a nursery tour series on the blog! If you'd like to share your nursery on our blog, contact me at

Guest Post: Summer 2013 Must-Haves

Hey y'all! My name is Meghan and I blog over at More from Meg! I'm so excited that Amanda has asked me to guest post for her today! Since we're in the heart of summer I thought it would be fun to write a post about my summer must-haves. These are all items that help me beat the heat and make it through the long, hot days!

#1 - Neutrogena Fresh Cooling Body Mist - SPF 45

I absolutely love this stuff! Sunscreen is a must-have in the summer months, and I actually keep this stuff in my purse so I can apply whenever and wherever I want! The cooling mist is very refreshing and it smells great on top of it! It also reminds me of being on the beach, you can't beat that!

#2 - Philosophy Summer Grace Perfume

I could honestly wear this scent all year round, but I mostly use it during the summer because it has such a great, light scent that isn't overwhelming when you're outside in the heat. I'm currently on my second bottle of this stuff - yes, it's that good!!

#3 - Essie Summer 2013 Collection Nail Polish

You can never go wrong with Essie nail polish, but I am loving this summer collection this year. I treated myself to this collection earlier this summer and I've used every color so far. The colors match will every summer outfit you can dream of. If you aren't anxious to buy the whole set, my favorites are Naughty Nautical and Sunday Funday!
#4 - Too Faced Bronzer

This is one of my favorite bronzers, but I love using this specific brand during the summer because it's nice and light and does a great job blending with my other makeup. It really is the perfect color to imitate a nice tan and definitely won't over-power your face and other makeup.

#5 - Bath and Body Works Lip Gloss

I'm a fan of just about any lip gloss, but I especially love this line of lip gloss during the summer because of the tropical flavors. They all have great color and last a long time! Plus, I love smacking my lips together and tasting the tropics! :)

#6 - Elastic Hair Ties

I've been using elastic hair ties for a little while now and I really do notice a difference in my hair! The traditional hair ties tend to pull my hair out, but not the gentle elastic ones! And considering I am wearing my hair up almost 99% of the time, these elastic ones are a life saver, and they look super cute on your wrist!

#7 - Mally Poreless Face Defender

This stuff is amazing! I don't know about you - but I don't like putting layers of makeup on when it's super hot outside, so this is exactly what I need. It's a clear makeup that you blot on with the sponge that comes along with it. It's designed to soak up any oil or sweat that's on your face without taking off or messing up your makeup! Need I say anything more?? :)

#8 - Not Your Mothers Sea Salt Spray

I've been finding myself using this product almost everyday lately! I use it when my hair is still damp and I'm trying to air dry it or after it's completely dry and I'm trying to style it. It smells amazing and adds a lot of texture to your hair, giving you the finished look. And the best part - it won't break the bank, so you can stock up on it!

I hope I helped you find some new summer favorites! If you have any questions about these products, I would be happy to help! Be sure to stop over to my blog, I would love to get to know each and every one of you better! Thank you again to Amanda for having me on your blog!!

Guest Post: Top 10 Products under $10

Hi all you Southern Glamourista Readers!

I’m Tawny and I write a blog over on Beauty by T ( and also
recently started doing some YouTube videos). I talk about all things fashion
and beauty and then a little bit of whatever is on my mind at that moment…

Today I thought I would share with you my Top 10 products
under $10, because who doesn’t love a good cheap product!

Simple Sensitive facial wipes($6-$8): These have been my go
to facial wipes for almost 2 years now. I’ve tried all different kinds from Neutrogena
to Ponds to any “no name” brand and I always go back to these simple
wipes.  They don’t leave any residue on
your face and they remove all makeup so easy without irritating your skin.

Maybelline Color Tattoo( range from $5-$7 depending on where
you buy from): These cream shadows are seriously amazing! I use these now more
than my MAC paint pots. They last all day (even on oily eye lids) and are
extremely pigmented. My two favorite and most used shades are “bad to the
bronze” and “barely beige”. Check out my dupe for MAC’s bare study HERE

Revlon Lip Butters: I’m sure you have all heard nothing but
amazing things about this product. If you’re a fan of super moisturizing lip
products then you will definitely have to check these out! These are also extremely
pigmented and wear fairly well throughout the day. My go to shades are
“raspberry pie” and  “Strawberry

Covergirl Corrector( $8-$10): This product has become my
best friend ever since I started using it. I have awful dark circles, so this
has been a life saver. The yellow tone cancels out any discoloration under my
eyes and acts as a base for my concealer. It’s super creamy and blend able and
does not crease under the eye which is a huge plus!

Rimmel Stay Matte Powder($5-$6): I’ve talked again and again
about this product but I just can’t get enough of it! It is a very finely
milled powder so it gives an amazing finish and helps with keeping your skin
nice and matte all day long, a must for all you oily skin girls!

Maybelline Bouncy Blush($4-$6): These are great for the
summer, gives the skin a nice glow of color. I prefer to use mine with a
stippling brush because I find that it is more pigmented that way. These are
also great for traveling because they’re super compact!

TRESemme Heat Tamer Spray ($3-$5): Love this stuff! It’s
cheap and does the job! It also doesn’t make my hair feel weighed down or
greasy which is something I always look for in hair care products because my
hair gets oily so quickly.

Essie “Bikini so Teeny”($7-$9): Essie is by far my most
loved and used nail polish brand. In particular this shade bikini so teeny. It’s
the most gorgeous light blue mixed with a bit of purple and perfect for the
summer ( I wear it all year round though because I love it that much!)

NYX Slide on Liner($5-$7): Definitely my favorite pencil liner!
Also a pretty good dupe for Urban Decay’s liner. These go on so smoothly and are very creamy and pigmented, they’re also awesome for smudging!

Nivea Lip Butter($2-$3.50): I can’t get enough of this
product and I just want them to come out with more! These are great for chapped
lips and keeping your lips moisturized all day!

What are some of your favorite cheap products? I’d love to

A huge thank you to Amanda for inviting me over onto
Southern Glamourista and I hope she enjoys her summer vacation!

Guest Post: Review of the Rimmel Apocolips/ Show Off Lip Lacquers

Hello girls!
We are so happy to be guest posting on Southern Glamourista this week! I guess we should start by introducing ourselves! We are Stephanie & Laura, and we have a YouTube channel called A Brunette Duet! Before we started YouTube, we tested the waters by blogging. We met some wonderful girls, Amanda Mae being one of the first! When she asked us if we wanted to guest post for her while she was on vacation we said of course, because hey, that's what friends are for!
Our post today is on a product that has had a lot of hype in the UK, and was released in the United States only recently.  We've been waiting for these for a while and were so excited when we finally got our hands on them!

We picked up five colors between the two of us- Nude Eclipse, Luna, Stellar, Apocaliptic, and Big Bang. There is a huge variety of shades, and we think Rimmel did a great job of having a color for everyone.

L to R: Nude Eclipse, Luna, Stellar, Apocoliptic, Big Bang
Upon application, these feel silky smooth- and as they dry down they become more more of a semi-matte finish. Rimmel doesn't promote these as either a lipgloss or a lipstick but more of a hybrid.  They most resemble a liquid lipstick in our opinion and they provide complete opacity in one application.

The lasting power of these is great, the intense pigmentation truly stains your lips, so you will have color long after application. Because they are intensely pigmented, application is crucial.  These are not a "swipe and go" type product.  You really have to pay attention and apply it evenly, otherwise it will fade unevenly.

These also do not provide any hydration and tend to feel a bit dry on the lips as the day wears on.  We've found that reapplication or topping it with lip balm after it dries does a great job of fixing the issue since they aren't moisturizing, but they aren't too drying either. Since they aren't hydrating at all, they tend to cling to any dry patches- so be sure to exfoliate your lips ahead of time!

These retail for $4.99 exclusively at Walgreens for the time being.  Hopefully they will be released to other stores soon.  They also are part of a special display, but will be part of the permanent display this fall. Walgreens frequently has coupons and Buy One Get One 50% off, so you can get these for a steal if you play your cards right!

We'd love to know if you've tried any of the Rimmel Show Off/Apocolips (Seriously, why did they change the name for the US?! Apocolips is so cute!) and what your thoughts are! If you're planning on buying any, what shades are you interested in?

Thanks again to Amanda for handing her blog over today, and if you'd like to see more from the two of us, head on over to our YouTube channel to watch our latest video! :)

I Heart Summer Tag

Hey guys! Since I am getting ready to go to the beach this weekend, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to do the "I heart Summer Tag" to help get even more in the summery mood. It hasn't really felt like summer where I live because it has rained nonstop for the past 2 months! So we can't ever get sunkissed!! BIG BUMMER!!
I saw this tag from my favorite youtubers: MissGlamorazzi and abrunetteduet.
So here are the questions:
1. Favorite bronzer for summer?
I have been loving my Bourjois Delice de Poudre Bronzer that I got from a beauty swap awhile back from Claire, PinkChickClaire. It gives the perfect natural summer glow and smells amazing! It smells like chocolate! Yum!

2. You're relaxing in a hammock, on a tropical island. What are you sipping on? (Favorite summer drink)
Coconut Water! I am obsessed with that stuff! It not only tastes great, but is really good for you as well. It's a Win:Win!

3. Favorite summer lip product?
I love the Maybelline Color Whispers. They give a little bit of color to your lips, but doesn't feel heavy or sticky!

4. Pool or Beach?
Beach!! I love everything about the beach...minus the sharks! I wish I lived closer to the beach. I can't wait to have the sand in between my toes. :)

5. Summer = crazy hair! What's your must-have styling product?
I have to have the Moroccan Oil in my hair during the Summer months. Okay, okay, I really don't HAVE to, but it definitely helps contain my frizzies during the Summer months. Plus, it helps keep my hair very shiny and healthy!

6. Sun bathing or fake tan?
I am a huge fan of fake tanning! I don't want to have skin cancer one day. Now don't get me wrong, I definitely like being out in the sun and getting some Vitamin C, but I usually wear SPF75+. No joke!
7. Favorite summer nail polish?
hmm, I think my favorite Summer Nail Polish is Cajun Shrimp by OPI. It is just a fun, bright color and I love wearing it on my toes during the Summer.

8. Any summer traditions?
I don't really think I have any? :(
I am going to have to start some!

9. Favorite summer scent?
Juicy Couture's Viva La Juicy. I love the smell of that perfume and it just screams SummerTime to me!

10. Favorite BBQ food?
One of my favorite restaurants is Sticky Fingers, so I love their wings and pulled pork sandwiches!! My mouth is watering just thinking about it!! Yummy!

11. What's your favorite summer-proof product?
Urban Decay's De-Slick Makeup Setting Spray is a MUST for me during the Summer! I have very oily skin, so this stuff really helps me keep my makeup from sliding off of my face.

12. Any summer vacation plans this year? No plans? Tell us about your dream summer trip!
I am leaving to go to the beach this weekend (I am sure you are probably tired of hearing about it and I haven't even left yet haha) and staying for a week! I am so excited!
I tag EVERYONE that is reading this post!
If you do the tag, make sure you leave the link to your video or blog post below so that way I can be sure and check it out!!
Happy Thursday!

Review: Olay Fresh Effects BB Cream

Today's post will feature Olay's Fresh Effects BB Cream.
I got the shade Fair to Light. I received this from my Sunkissed VoxBox from Influenster.
If you want to see everything I got click HERE.
I was very excited to see this in the box because it keeps catching my eye every time I go to the store. I had almost convinced myself that I needed another beauty product when I got the box and ahhh there it was...perfect timing! ;)
So here is what they say about the product straight from the Olay Website:
No Oil or PABA. Just the good stuff.
BB Cream, also known as beauty balm, is one of Asia's hottest beauty sensations. Its multi-tasking formula works to moisturize, brighten, and help protect skin from harmful UV rays. This silky, tinted lotion blends effortlessly with your natural skin tone, helping hide imperfections and minimizing the need for concealer and foundation. With just one use, skin will be left glowing and naturally even.

 6 Skin Perfecting Benefits:
  • Refreshens
  • Brightens
  • Evens Tone
  • Hydrates
  • Smoothes
  • Protects

Here are my thoughts:
I really do enjoy the packaging. It would stand out to me when I would see it at places like Target and Walmart. I think the bottle itself is fantastic. It is a squeeze tube, so you can just squeeze out the amount that you need which helps eliminate a lot of wasted product. It does have a scent to it and I am definitely not crazy about that. They say it is supposed to be a fresh scent...don't get me wrong it definitely smells fresh, but after smelling it got old ...FAST! Some people may enjoy smelling it all day, but I don't.
It looks like it only comes in two color selections; Fair to Light and Light to Medium.
They definitely need to work on getting a better color selection. Not everyone fits in those two categories.

The tint is very light and sheer. It does blur small imperfections, but nothing beyond that. I would say it is more of a tinted moisturizer than an actual BB Cream. It did feel oily/greasy on my skin, so I would add a little bit of concealer to my problem areas to help with the coverage and after putting on the BB Cream, set it with a powder.
I would say that this product would be better for those that have dry to normal skin.
What is your favorite BB Cream?
